inherit their existing programs and policy requirements. You have
to comply with those mandates; you have to implement those programs.
However, each agency brings with it leadership practices that
will set the course for the future. Youre either heading
toward vitality (the "mountaintop") or mortality (the
"wilderness"). At Performance Vistas we have a saying:
"None of us HAS to live in an organizational wasteland, no
matter how difficult the situation. Each of us has the capacity
to build for our teammates and ourselves a rose garden
even in the midst of a desert."
The agency leaders who bring in Performance Vistas have made
it a priority that the entire organization should share leaderships
vision and values of continuous improvement, participatory decision-making,
and earned accountability. To build ownership of that vision,
our clients use us to help them generate widespread alignment
behind a set of values that provides the day-to-day backdrop for
service delivery priorities. Activists and agitators for change
lead our client agencies! They believe that their agencies can
improve the quality of their clients outcomes by fervently
